The character development in this final installment was everything. The Wicked King seriously lacked depth for me in terms of the characters. I feel like there wasn’t much, if any, development from The Cruel Prince. However, I feel that lack of development in character is what makes Queen of Nothing so good? It’s like finally getting to itch a scratch you have been dying for. It was so satisfying to see the relationships grow and change following the events from the previous book.
The world felt different, it felt like it was teetering on the edge of impending disaster at all times. You’re constantly at the edge of your seat wondering how this is all going to end. Who will be King and Queen? Who will rule and what will they do?
The story progression broke me. I could not put this book down. It was everything I could have ever asked for and so much more. I was living for every plot twist, every dialogue, every lingering moment between Jude and Cardan. It was action packed from start to finish, constantly leaving you needing to know what is going to happen next.
This book was also YA first for me in the sense that it was the first time I have ever read a sex scene in YA. I’m not spoiling who did the deed or any of the steamy details (those are for you to read). But It just made the relationship seem so much more real. It left a really lasting impact on my feelings towards the characters and their relationship that the scene just fading to black could have never done? While there is much debate on sex in YA and whether it is appropriate, I was living for it and i’d definitely appreciate it being more openly written about.
The ending was phenomenal. I didn’t see it coming at all. I thought I had this story all figured out and Holly just came out of nowhere and shook me to the core. Everything about this book gave me everything I wanted and so much more.
