In an unprecedented feat of bravery, Paige Mahoney has succeeded in leading a mass break-out from the brutal camp, Sheol I, where she and other clairvoyants were systematically imprisoned.

Paige is desperate to reach the safety of the London underworld, but the ruthless leader of the Rephaim, Nashira Sargas, is not likely to let her escape so easily…

After finishing The Bone Season I had to jump straight back into this world and continue with The Mime Order.

The Plot, Characters and Story Progression

In the beginning of The Mime Order, the story continues straight on from where The Bone Season ended and we’re thrown straight back into the action, which I very much appreciated.

The story progression throughout felt a bit slower in this book, though I still found myself being invested in the mystery of where the plot was going. I wanted to know if Paige and Warden would ever see each other again, desperately hoping for a reunion between them both. In addition, the dynamic between Paige and Jaxon was something I related to a lot. The manipulative grip he has over her and how she is slowly opening her eyes to how his words have her mind in a choke-hold. The determination she had to break free from him and stand on her own I admired a lot.

World Building, Atmosphere and Setting

The atmosphere in this second title felt different. Not only the change in location (we’re based in London for this book) but I felt like a lot less of the writing went into building a picture of where we are. The Bone Season did this a lot better I feel. The Mime Order is more character driven and as a result, I found myself struggling to picture where the scenes were taking place.

The Verdict

The ending of this book was extremely satisfying and left me with my jaw on the floor. I really enjoyed the fast pace of the last few chapters and how the book ended on an epic cliffhanger. Though there were some slower parts to the story. I remained gripped by the fantastic voice narration in the audio book. And the complex and intriguing characters relationships, personalities and dynamics. The world building let it down slightly so i’ll be rating The Mime Order four stars.
